Nursery Debut!

Kids' Rooms, Design Projects, My HomeSara Michelle B.3 Comments

Well this baby may not be ready to make his debut (today is my due date!), but at least I can debut the finished nursery!

We used the same basic elements we used in Miles' nursery, (including the crib, dresser, rocking chair/ottomon, etc.), but tried to give it a bit of a different feeling with color and accessories. First, we painted the walls Sherwin William's Gibraltar, a grayish-blueish color (I just like dark colors in bedrooms... I believe it helps me and the kids nap better during the day and sleep better at night!) I got the bedding on SUPER clearance from Pottery Barn Kids the day we found out we were having a boy! The rug and the rugby striped drapes are from Pottery Barn Kids as well. The weathered wood star wall art and bedside lamp are from Target.

Here is a glimpse of Miles' nursery then vs. Baby B's nursery now:

Overall, not a huge investment for a bit of a change to personalize the room for baby B #2! Now we just need the baby :)

TFH Designs: Brass & Striped Dining Room

Unfortunately one of my pregnancy symptoms is that I have massive insomnia! No matter how tired I am, I wake up at 1:30 in the morning and am WIDE AWAKE for at least a couple of hours.  Since I'm one of those people who always tries to see the silver lining, I guess one of the benefits is that it has given me time to shop the latest home decor and furnishings available on the market right now and make some beautiful design boards! That part has actually been very fun, since I rarely have time in my normal daily schedule to fit in this type of activity. Here is my first board, a dining room:

The items can be found here:

Wingback Chair
Dining Room Table
Shelf
Rug
Pendant Light Fixtures
Bar Set

Stay tuned! There is plenty more where this came from :)

Big Boy Room Progress!

Miles, My Home, Kids' RoomsSara Michelle B.1 Comment

it is definitely not done yet, but I'm so excited about the progress on Miles' big boy room! It has come a really long way in just a month! So far, we have:

- Painted the room Benjamin Moore's Polo Blue (my favorite navy!)
- Added two twin beds, courtesy of my in-laws
- Installed new drapes from Homegoods - $16 for a packet of two... can't beat that!
- Got new navy cotton jersey sheets from Pottery Barn Kids
- Got new bedskirts from RH Baby & Child
- Got new pillows from RH Baby & Child (here and here)
- Got new duvet covers from RH Baby & Child (not pictured, on backorder until October! Boo!)
- I also framed some really cool patent prints I found at this cute little shop in Powell, Touched. Frames are from Target, the Threshold brand.

The airplane print we had in Miles' nursery but it is from RH Baby & Child.  The dresser is one my parents have had forever. It is a  beast, it holds so much. I love it! I debated painting it but decided it to leave it as is, for now. The desk is also one I've had since I was a kid. I think I need new hardware on it because this is kind of feminine, but at the same time I am kind of liking the white on white...

Also, in case anyone is wondering, the fan is from Restoration Hardware (probably 7 years old) and the diaper pail is Ubbi (Best diaper pail EVER! Uses regular trash bags = priceless!)

The banner with Miles' name on it is also something we had in his nursery. It is from Land of Nod.

The lights (which I LOVE!) are ones we have forever from Pottery Barn. They actually still carry them, here. I think they are perfect for this room!

The other blankets and bedding are ones we have around the house forever.. Just using them in here temporarily until the new duvet covers come in.

What's still left to do? We need a rug, headboards, and we want to install a book nook in the corner so Miles can have his own little library. This kid loves reading!

I love this room! I hope it inspires sweet dreams and big dreams for Miles as he grows!

PS - Sorry about the terrible quality photos! This room has an interesting balance going between the dark walls and all the natural light, and my C- photography skills just can't capture it very well!

TFH Designs: The Bachelor Pad

Design Projects, Home TourSara Michelle B.1 Comment

I am so excited to share this incredible bachelor pad with you! My friend Matt is renting this awesome 1,200 square foot apartment space above a dry cleaners, and enlisted me to help him transform it into a industrial chic, loft-like apartment. It has been in the works for quite some time, but the space has finally come together and looks great! There are still a handful of things we are working on - drapes, artwork, bedding, a bar, and some accessorizing.. but the major things are in place at this point and I couldn't wait to share the progress!

The dining room is definitely my favorite area. This space has so much natural light, and I just love how all the textures of the table, chairs, rug and light fixture work together.

And this light fixture! Do you love it as much as I do, because I am obsessed. It is amazing how it transforms the room. I don't think many people think about changing out light fixtures when renting, but its really not that hard as long as you get the okay from the landlord and save the fixture that was originally in its place so you can swap it out again when you move out.  A little bit of hassle goes a really long way!

And here of course are the guys hanging out in the family room area watching March Madness. I love all of the touches of wood and metal, even though it is clearly still a warm and inviting space.

The brown accent wall is where we are going to install a custom bar. We are in the process of designing it now!

Since Matt didn't really need two eating areas, we made the space off of the kitchen a den/reading area. This oversized chair is super comfortable and I'm pretty much obsessed with the custom mirror Matt ordered. It is HUGE and reflects a lot of light into this back corner.

There are two rooms off of the main living space - the bedroom and the office. We decided to make these spaces a little brighter and went with grayish/blue walls and some lighter furniture. Still have some work to do here, but I'm loving the foundation of these rooms!

Matt's place spans the whole top of this storefront. It has a beautiful view and is walking distance to my favorite town in Ohio.

I will continue to keep you posted as we continue to make changes!

Matt thank you for sharing and for trusting me w/designing your space! It's been a blast!
