Color Scheme in a Small Space

TFH Designs, Design ProjectsSara Michelle B.Comment

Piggybacking off of yesterday's post, I am also dreaming of how I'd decorate a loft apartment (of course!). In such a small space, consistency in the color scheme throughout the space is key. Having too much going on would make it feel busy and choppy. I have a million different directions I could see myself going in if we were ever in this situation, but here is my color scheme inspiration based on blue, gray, white, and tan.

First, here is my mood board for the living and dining areas. It is preppy, meets modern, meets bright white:

It ties in perfectly to what we already have for the boy's room (my favorite room in our house!):

And for the master bedroom:

I envision painting the walls the same color as the boy's room. Repetition also helps in tying an area together.

As for the backdrop? I envision a bright white loft space, like this one I found on Pinterest:

Fun to dream, isn't it?

Quartz Countertops

Kitchen, My HomeSara Michelle B.1 Comment

We finally have new countertops! Now that we have them, I am kicking myself for waiting so darn long. I was really struggling with the decision to get marble or something more durable.. eventually practically won out and we went with the Silestone Quartz "Stony Ibiza." I could not be happier with how they turned out! (But some day I will have my marble... some day!)

The pictures don't even do justice to how beautiful they are and what a difference they make in the room. To be fair, in every other picture you've seen of my kitchen the counters look better in the picture than they did in real life. They were pretty beat up!

I also repainted the cabinets and Evan re-drywalled the island (it was super wonky and uneven plaster).

I feel like this change has made me fall in love with this house all over again!

The white and gray baskets on the left hand side of the kitchen next to the mixer hold bottle parts, pacifiers, and kid utensils! Essential to have handy, but I hate looking at them. These baskets have helped hide the clutter!

The island here is the biggest change. I love, love, love it!

We decided to do a 2-inch angle on the corners of the island to prevent any hard bumps! I love the look too.

I'm kind of thinking of re-styling the kitchen... the curtains and the rug and the stools, in particular. We'll see!

Nursery Debut!

Kids' Rooms, Design Projects, My HomeSara Michelle B.3 Comments

Well this baby may not be ready to make his debut (today is my due date!), but at least I can debut the finished nursery!

We used the same basic elements we used in Miles' nursery, (including the crib, dresser, rocking chair/ottomon, etc.), but tried to give it a bit of a different feeling with color and accessories. First, we painted the walls Sherwin William's Gibraltar, a grayish-blueish color (I just like dark colors in bedrooms... I believe it helps me and the kids nap better during the day and sleep better at night!) I got the bedding on SUPER clearance from Pottery Barn Kids the day we found out we were having a boy! The rug and the rugby striped drapes are from Pottery Barn Kids as well. The weathered wood star wall art and bedside lamp are from Target.

Here is a glimpse of Miles' nursery then vs. Baby B's nursery now:

Overall, not a huge investment for a bit of a change to personalize the room for baby B #2! Now we just need the baby :)

Christmas, My HomeSara Michelle B.1 Comment

Welcome to the Farmhouse Christmas Home Tour series! As you may know, I've teamed up with some absolutely amazing bloggers in order to share our 2015 Christmas decor!

This year, with a baby due SOON, I decided to keep our decor very clean and very simple. I pretty much stuck to greenery, white lights, white poinsettias, and of course fresh hydrangeas.

Without further ado, here are the pics!
